re Atherton Library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/cuADBgCPNW9ZGuXm6

One problem here is that they allow "people of color" ( ie so-called
' minorities ' ) to BULLY ๐Ÿ˜กwhite people. It's not so much that they allow it but that staff has been brainwashed to believe that minorities are ALWAYS RIGHT because of their skin color. IT'S ' white guilt ' on steroids. Therefore if any conflict arises, the benefit of the doubt ALWAYS goes to the person of color even if he is the AGGRESSOR.

It's time to re- think the in-service training because the fact is it's wrongly punishing good white people. And savvy minorities are taking advantage of it at the expense of very good white people.
( And remember: ' minorities ' are NOT the minority in CA. They're the MAJORITY. So when white people get bullied by minorities, it's the ACTUAL MINORITY being bullied ๐Ÿ‘Ž.)

San Mateo Library management needs to wake up to this REALITY before they allow whites to become an endangered species.

re Atherton Library , San Mateo county CA

https://maps.app.goo.gl/JxjxdDEXMC48xKe96

It's a beautiful little library but unfortunately it's been occupied by "Gangsters" who spend their entire day here, day after day after day ....after day.

The problem is that so much prolonged time at any one place leads to a sense of entitlement (ie "mine") , the same way a homeless person comes to think they "own" a particular place on a public sidewalk & become surly ๐Ÿ˜กtowards any approaching person. After a while you just don't want to go near there anymore.

I live near the library in Atherton but now I actually drive to San Carlos when I need to use a San Mateo county library (unfortunately they have a 'permanent resident' too but not as many as at Atherton) .

I ENCOURAGE LIBRARY MANAGEMENT to think of creative ways to minimize the problem of 'permanent residents' occupying the library at the expense of the average patron who wants to enjoy the library for a few hours periodically.

Peninsula Library Palos Verdes ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ˜ก SUCKS

https://maps.app.goo.gl/3NpR3KWAUhcNkKMd6
Upstairs, by the parking entrance there's now a table for one person to plug in. So it looks like a new regular has claimed it as his spot. Problem is he leaves his stuff there plugged in and walks around. Then he acts suspicious towards everybody. If you're afraid your cheap little laptop might get stolen you creep, then take it with you rather than treat all of us like potential suspects. There's NO FREAKIN COMMUNITY at this library. It's so dreadful and getting worse.

---
Now they put a lock on the electric curtains on the mezzanine so an employee has to put them up and down. Well, the sun was over the hill, so it would have been nice to put them back up for a few hours since the light is so dim but NOBODY ever came up to do their job. So I got to stare at a white curtain instead of the nice outdoors.
---
1 year later, same guy same spot. Is he REAL ?
---
The ROBOT ๐Ÿค– is still at the same computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ️ 2 years later. I swear he's a MANNEQUIN.
----
I experienced an ABUSIVE SITUATION here when I asked a lady if she could please be quiet because she was actually yelling into her phone on the other side of the computer kiosk.. she thought that was asking too much and literally growled at me " I don't have to be quiet " ๐Ÿ‘ฟ. .. even though the little sign on each computer kiosk says " this is a quiet area ". etc I'll finish this later.b

Re chubby male employee at rinconada library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/CDh6tcdnJRwCwaX39

The chubby male employee seems to have taken a particular interest in my presence at the library like I'm a high school rebel and he's the principal, despite me being ALMOST 60 YEARS OLD . I'm also disabled (chronic pain) but try not to show it.

I think his behavior is "knee jerk" ( ie reflexive) based on some stereotype in the back of his mind and I hope he can work thru this without there being a need for confrontation or talking to his superior.

I use the library strictly to get work done . I'm not there playing games, nor fooling around, nor idly wasting time. Please leave me alone. And NO SHARP GLANCES please .

Re rinconada library , Palo Alto CA

https://maps.app.goo.gl/gJViRzDu9vGU2BGg7

There's an African-American fellow at this library who is literally at the library every single day and always at the same public computer. The problem is that this raises the problem of a sense of "entitlement" - a false sense of "ownership", despite this being a public place meant for everybody. Not a big problem but I notice he gives me a sharp glance every time I enter and exit. It's the sharp glance that bothers me, like passing a "gatekeeper" every time.

And the chubby employee likewise sometimes. I don't think the chubby male employee likes me. Makes me feel like I'm in high school again with a random teacher not liking me for no good reason despite me being almost 60 now. Isn't there a mandatory retirement age here ?

As long as I'm doing nothing wrong, I prefer to be IGNORED. And I can assure you, I am doing nothing wrong. Just working on my laptop, editing writing material.

re San Mateo Libraries, esp Atherton LIbrary

I remember the old Atherton library (ie a trailer). The new Atherton library has attracted a lot of "supremacists": but not the white kind (who don't really exist very much, especially not in CA; where whites are actually a minority) . I'm talking about those who think they are  superior to white people .

I'm a "white person" (although never thought of myself as such growing up)  who has lived all over the world, & been very successful, including numerous academic degrees; & studied several different languages (including Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Spanish, & Arabic; oh, I almost forgot, also Aramaic) & yet I've experienced people here who assume I am a "stupid white boy" . It's the most disgusting grotesque racist thing in the world.

And the white staff at the library, as good as they are (the best!) don't know how to handle it. If a white person (esp white male) gets wronged by a non-white person (maybe a micro-aggression, or even a more overt aggression) in their minds it's been so ingrained that the "minorities" (who are actually the majority in CA ) need special treatment and empathy and extra patience etc, or even assume that the white person  is to blame for "triggering" them (or if we did unintentionally trigger a person; find a way to educate us as to how sometimes unknowingly we  are triggering them so we can try to accommodate without also compromising our intellectual honesty & integrity, & freedom).

San Mateo library needs to start training for the increasing opposite scenarios where the minority person (who is actually a majority in CA, repeated for emphasis) is the aggressor. They need to at least begin entertaining the idea that a "person of color" can and will become an aggressor at times; and how not to re-victimize the white victim by assuming the white person intentionally did something to "trigger" the minority person (who is the majority, repeated for emphasis) and therefore "deserves" the wrath of the person of color.  Please start discussing this amongst staff and management before it is too late !

Re vandalism at North Branch Berkeley library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/yy4PYNuS3J3t8Uz98

Somebody vandalized my car because it had a political sticker that was NOT pro-Liberal . However, their face was caught on my car camera which Auto- activates. I have already reported it to police and will file charges as soon as the person is identified (and they will be). I do NOT CARE how passionate & EMOTIONAL you are for your Lefty cause, it is still a CRIME to vandalize or even "merely" pull a sticker off a car (or deface it) because you don't agree with it. YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿšจ

re atherton library , san mateo county ca

great staff and management ! I want to also encourage management to have an "action plan" in advance about how they will deal with a "minority" person who becomes belligerent and disrespectful towards staff or other patrons, including towards white patrons, if they do not immediately get what they want. Minorities have become so coddled and appeased in every single way that some are like spoiled babies when they don't get what they want. The knee- jerk reaction by management is to appease them even when they are violating the rights of others just to make the problem go away, but that's not always the right response. White people deserve to have their rights respected also. Please have a meeting about this so you will be properly prepared in advance. Maybe do  a "role play" to run through various scenarios that might possibly arise.  I know you all want to be as "nice" as possible, but in some cases you might have to be STERN , even towards minorities.

re San Carlos library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/JCMTeUSUUh6R9PUbA

This library is well maintained and usually pleasant atmosphere except there's one "full-time resident" there who basically treats the whole place like his living room. he looks homeless & wears the same clothes every time -doesn't look like he has access to a shower or anything.

The problem is not that he's homeless but that he is Arrogant even Rude such as Farting out loud without apology (ie intentionally) . That tells you a lot about the character of a person if they can mistreat people around them in such a way.

But Patrons are so meek and mild here they don't protest anything. Or maybe the library staff won't do anything about it. This guy apparently doesn't have anything else to do all day so he just hangs around the library and puts his feet up on chairs in a very brazen & insolent manner, almost like a rude punk teenager.

But he's a senior citizen. Library staff, please intervene for the sake of the rest of us !!!!!

Ode to Ken the Slob, At Atherton library

Ken the slob, a bully so loud & proud
At Atherton library, he'd push thru the crowd
Scowling & sneering, filled with spite
Mistreated folks with all his might

Books he'd toss & papers he'd tear
His manners Gone, & kindness rare
He mocked & jeered, no soul was spared
A hater's heart, dark & bared

But one day came a quiet foe
A gentle patron, wise & slow
With steady gaze & words precise
She met his wrath with calm advice

"Ken," she said, "your time is done
You've had your fun, but now you run
For every insult & every sneer
Karma's creeping, drawing near"

Ken stood up,  but not for long
Her steady gaze too fierce & strong
His bluster broke & courage fled
HE SLUNK AWAY, his face turned red

Out the door, tail tucked tight
Ken vanished fast into the night
No more a bully, no more a king
He left in shame, NEVER seen again

Check out this review of Menlo Park Library on Google Maps

https://goo.gl/maps/rCkyvmHEhQCjEwho8?g_st=am

Update: 1 day later I confirmed my hunch : upon arrival i saw the same female employee (dark hair & face mask , maybe Latina or Asian? ) . Walking to the back I noticed at least 2 people with shoes ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ off . I sat down & worked on my laptop ๐Ÿ’ป for 2 hours. During this entire 2-hour period the same lady never came back to the area. And at least 5 other employees walked thru but said NOTHING to the 2 people with their shoes off. Hmmm.

Yesterday, the gal came back within the 1st 15 minutes I was there as if intentionally looking to "get something" on me. Now I can't fully relax here knowing I am a targeted person ( why me ? What did I do ? I'm a good guy, a nice guy )
****
initial entry: Since they decided to come after me "Search & Destroy Style" for having my sandals off in the farthest corner of the library, next time I will be watching to make sure they NITPICK every single other person. You have set the NORM. You must abide by your own rule enforcement now. You can't just nitpick me. you MUST NITPICK EVERYBODY.

re Menlo Park LIbrary

so i walk past a bunch of library patrons , a few bedraggled homeless and their bags & stuff, all the way to the back corner of the library, nobody near  by. I kick off my sandals under the table (and no, my feet are not smelly). I start working on my laptop when suddenly a female employee sneaks up behind me and says "Excuse me sir, you need to keep your shoes on" . Say what ?

I see all kinds of behavior that library staff never enforces, but they choose to find me in the furthest corner of the library with my feet "bare" under the table not bothering anybody ?

I know this game: Get something on the new white guy ASAP, so that we have "something on him" and won't become demanding. Problem is I'm NOT the new white guy. I've been around. Maybe you just haven't seen me before. And you don't need to get something on me. I'm not here to find fault with  you. I'm not the "boss". Just leave me alone and we'll all be fine. Don't nitpick me ! Oh, at the same time she was nitpicking me, I could see a fellow across the room with his shoes off under the table, and she didn't say anything to him.

review of Mountain View Library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/rgWYHex8SMC6RhHk6

DISAPPOINTED with the Latina security guard : She obviously decided IN HER MIND that I was a "new white guy" at the library who needed to be watched. Truth is I've been coming here for more years than she's probably worked here. And I've lived in this country longer than her.  But I don't come here very often anymore.

Anyways, I'm sitting at a table all by myself away from everybody on a hot day and my feet get sweaty so sometimes  I just slip my heels out and keep  my toes in them. I don't know how she noticed my feet under the table with the laptop case also obstructing the view but SURE ENOUGH here she comes finding something to NITPICK about; telling me I need to keep my shoes on.

I realized she must have been watching me from behind looking for something to "get" on me, thinking this gives her authority over me. Disappointing. I thought this old school power & control crap was a thing of the past.

I'm freakin 57 years old and she's treating me like a juvenile delinquent (just because I'm a white male) . Can you say "prejudice" ?  It's baked into the cake.

re North Branch Berkeley Library

9.22.24 an AFrican-AMerican lady walked up the aisle with her phone camera on and turned around right by me and aimed her camera at me and kept walking. I didn't appreciate it. What's up with that ?

Balboa branch library, Newport Beach ⛱️

https://maps.app.goo.gl/skTg2yZHcGeKP86h9

I don't like it when employees act as if they're the hosts and we're the guests. Those of us who live here are taxpayers and so we are PARTIAL CO-OWNERS of the library. And if the library receives Federal funding which it probably does then even people from out-of-state are partial co-owners. But more important than where the money is coming from is a sense of care and concern for the library. Which I have a LOT of. I want to see the library stay in NICE condition and keep a good environment.

Those who care about, & use the library most, have the greatest investment. Employees are good but some are just doing it for easy money. Let's face it. It's not a difficult job sitting behind the desk all day.

Those employees who TRULY CARE about the library and the patrons are more invested in the library as well. We are co-owners together.

Re Newport Beach library

https://maps.app.goo.gl/FC6JchkMMXNUqh8r6

I was leaving the library on Sunday evening shortly before closing time, & a mousy little Latina employee ( is she new?) standing by the door said "Have a nice day," as if i was a guest and she was the host. I don't think of myself as a guest at the library which I pay taxes to. I think of myself as using something that I PARTIALLY OWN! Which almost all of us here partially own unless I guess if you're from out of state. But if the library receives Federal funding which they probably do then even out-of-state people are partial owners as well.

And I definitely don't think of her as the host. I don't need her welcome in the morning or her "have a nice day" in the evening. And we don't need somebody standing at the door as we leave.

And I want to encourage management to be very careful about hiring too many persons of a specific ethnicity (which I will not name, but they are the actual majority in Southern California now) because once they get in to any establishment they gradually take over in subtle ways. And then it's all over. Newport Beach is our last hope. Stand strong ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ‘

The little USB plug for the scanner was out of order on 8.17.24 . The skinny little gal came over & she already knew about it. So why not simply put a note on it ? Is that too much to ask? Then she says "Your more than welcome to use a computer". I have my own freakin computer sweetie . I didn't come here because I wanted to use a free computer. And I Don't need YOUR invitation to use something in MY OWN LIBRARY . It's not your personal library sweetie. It's All of ours, especially those of us who have invested in the community.

8/14/24 my complaint re patron at NBPL (newport beach main library)

on 8.13.24 I found a nice spot (or so I thought) in the southeast corner of the library (2nd floor) as the library was opening for the day. I only use the library for a few months a year &  I hadn't sat in this section for a while and realized how nice the light was coming thru the windows. Nobody else was there yet (or so I thought), but I noticed a few articles of clothing scattered around the area. I thought somebody must have forgotten them and they weren't picked up by the staff for some reason (turns out this guy scatters his stuff around apparently to try to keep people away. So he had done this already in the first few minutes of the library opening.

I began my work on my laptop (ongoing project) and a little while later a guy came in singing. He set a bunch of bags down in one chair (#1)and then he went to a different carrel (#2) nearby in my line of sight. A few moments later he popped up and moved over to a carrel (#3) at the end of the row where he had some more "stuff". A few minutes later I noticed there was a shirt behind the curtain next to me hanging over one of those portable round laptop "desks";  apparently with the intention of being dried by the sun, like a clothes line.

I didn't know this was also the fellow's stuff (but it turned out to be, #4). The guy returned to carrel #2 and then bounced up to discard a banana peel. Back to #2 he sat for a few seconds, then let out a LOUD BURP without apology. I finally said something: "YOUR BEHAVIOR IS INAPPROPRIATE. I will report you if this continues. This is NOT your living room".

He totally ignored me as if he couldn't hear me. But I know he could hear me. I knew he wasn't deaf because he also periodically was talking on his phone. A few moments later he BURPED LOUDLY again ( other patrons heard it as well, looking over towards him). So this time I walked over to the desk and talked to Chris about it. Chris said they are aware of this fellow and said he is "mentally ill" but that they "must personally observe the inappropriate behavior" themselves in order to take action.

He said they would do a "walk by" in a few moments. And he DID walk by and noticed the scattered stuff all over the area and gently told the fellow that he needs to keep it all together in once place. The fellow obeyed the instructions without a response, putting all his stuff together by his #2 spot.

Chris left and I resumed working on my laptop. The fellow talked on the phone again, sounding as if he was able to function NORMALLY in that regard. I don't think he's mentally ill as much as he is simply self-centered and could CARE LESS about other people. I don't think this is a matter of having compassion for a mentally ill person as much as it is about a person willfully defying socially acceptable behavior & normal etiquette. Anyways, since the library is not a psychiatric hospital, we're not here to take care of him and bend backwards to allow inappropriate disruptive behavior that is driving people out of this area.

Nonetheless, I left the area for the time being: I try to get outside for exercise every day around this time.  Later when I returned I chose a different area; but did make an effort to to see if he was still there and YES he was- and his "stuff" was spread out again. And as I was leaving at the end of the day I intentionally walked by again and he had a ton of food items all over the place.

One day later 8/14/24 around opening time I thought about sitting in the "nice light" area again but there he was already - all set up- and all his belongings spread out again. Chris was back behind the desk . I get the feeling he doesn't like doing rule enforcement and didn't approach him. He will do it if asked, but who wants to be the one who asks for rule enforcement every day. Then I will become the "bad guy".

But  I shouldn't  feel forced to find a different area of the library just because of one selfish jerk. By the way, this same guy smirked at me later in the day as he walked by, as if he had "won". I don't think he's low IQ mentally ill. I think he's just a selfish dude who doesn't care about others.  He also drives a car ( I noticed him in the parking structure on one occasion) so he apparently is able to function normally in this regard (pass a driver's license test, drive without getting tickets, accidents etc).

Based on my conversation with Chris yesterday (that they are "aware" of him as it seems to be an ongoing long-term issue) I get the feeling that they are just allowing him to do his thing unless there's a complaint. I don't want to be the guy who complains every day. I just want normal rule enforcement- nothing extreme. I'm not so uptight that I come and complain about every little thing but this seems like a chronic problem that will continue to get worse as this guy has a GIGANTIC SENSE  sense of ENTITLEMENT to this area of the library, at the EXPENSE of OTHERS. I hope library administration will take note of this. It's NOT fair to everybody else.

An employee snapped at me because when I walked in I was literally ending a phone call ( ie saying bye). She heard me still talking around the corner but.i was talking to a fellow patron. The problem is that there are people of all sorts at the library (whichever location u choose) violating all kinds of rules, but the employees have been trained to ONLY enforce the rule if it's a WHITE MALE. That's a big problem ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ˜ก

re Atherton Library, San Mateo county CA

https://maps.app.goo.gl/aW7iGkivk9mHv5HZ8

Usually nice environment to study ... I've noticed there's a few regular Indian patrons (from India, not native- Americans) who appear to be "high- caste" - which is not necessarily in accord with the  American way. This is not talked about very much, but the truth is that the India caste system is a supremacy system.

In essence how well you will do in life is highly correlated with the family you are born into rather than your personal aptitude, dedication, hard work, and achievement based on what you've personally accomplished.

When they being this attitude to America, even if they mask it to a certain extent, it still becomes apparent at times. And when you do notice it because of some micro aggression etc, your eyes are suddenly wide open, and you can't unsee it. It is an EPIPHANY.

The India caste system is un-American . We judge people on their merits, not what family they are born into ( although it does help to come from a "good family"  in terms of getting your ' foot in the door', so to speak; but after they first step we're all on the same playing field).

But looking down on people with condescension as if you are inherently superior is despicable ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

Atherton library, San Mateo county CA

https://maps.app.goo.gl/fn2aBqUu7XvvfecDA

Update: some people apparently have started reserving the study rooms in advance just in case they feel like going to the library ... but most of the time they don't show up. So it's like playing lotto whether or not to sit down in an empty room wondering if they will show up or not.

Sure, you can reserve it after 15 minutes but that requires 10 more minutes to go to the desk and have them do it manually, and by that time you only have 35 minutes remaining to use the room. Then you have to do it again for the 2nd hour. So what's the ANSWER for these people making " just-in-case reservations" WITHOUT ever SHOWING UP?

Only allow people to reserve a room twice a week maybe, rather than every day. I suspect the people who are doing this are making reservations for every day of the week and maybe showing up once or twice.
---
It's a nice library, especially for those of us who remember the old library; however there are minorities from other places, even other countries, who are starting to become bossy , even towards anglos who have grown up here. It's bizarre how they start out friendly and submissive, just glad to be able to use the nice library, but then over time they become possessive and entitled even to the point of thinking they are superior to the locals.

Even a minority employee who apparently only works weekends and hadn't seen me before because I usually only visit during the week tried to treat me like a newcomer and even was a little misleading about using the study rooms, which I use on a regular basis and I know about all the rules.

I had to tell her the rules and that she was wrong about what she was telling me. I guess she wasn't expecting to hear such intelligence out of the mouth of a random "white boy" (who is almost 60-yo ).

Times have changed, haven't they.

Brightview Landscaping at downtown Palo Alto Library needs to be fired ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ‘Ž

https://maps.app.goo.gl/2W2sXp6KV72SHWdg6

What's the freaking deal with Brightview Landscaping๐Ÿ˜ก⁉️๐Ÿ‘Ž at downtown Palo Alto Library . I pulled in one morning around 10:00 a.m. and they're doing their omnipresent ubiquitous leaf blowing thing, as they always freakin do, and then the chubby girl blowing the leaves not only does she try to blow a patch of dirt, unnecessarily kicking up dust -you can't blow dirt off dirt unless you're trying to dig a hole or something. Some things you just can't blow. You need to get out a rake or something.Use your muscles if you have any.

But the main freakin problem was that she was aiming everything towards my vehicle and I'm sitting in the vehicle with Windows partially open. And she doesn't even stop despite apparently knowing that I'm in the vehicle. And all the dust and debris going all over my vehicle.

So I finally get out of my freakin car and I say what's going on ? STOP. And she tries to say in broken English " I'm blowing I'm blowing" like she's an innocent Little Red Riding Hood or something. I know you're blowing, but you need to stop if you're getting it all over my car or any other car and if my windows are open all the more so! She pretends or maybe she actually can't speak any English.

Doesn't Brightview do any training I mean it's not like this is brain surgery or rocket science to blow leaves but you have to have a LITTLE COMMON SENSE () not to blow the debris onto vehicles and cover their vehicles with debris (& care , not apathy; or Worse -getting stoned & then blowing leaves).

Furthermore they blow this stuff over to the side by the fence and then THEY DON'T EVEN THEY DON'T EVEN SWEEP it up. And they don't even pick up the paper and trash that's on the side.

They're very LAZY- all they seem willing to do is leaf blowing. I don't think this girl even had the dexterity to to bend over. It's lazy work really it really is lazy work leaf blowing & combined with apathy it's just a terrible operation.

Brightview ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ˜ก needs to be fired and they need to get somebody new a new operation at the library or the city if the city is the contractor.

re Sound Lab @NBPL main library

When I arrived at a little after 10 am @nbpl hoping to use the sound lab, it was vacant & the door unlocked so i entered & tried logging in & the screen said "reserved for 5 more minutes". So I sat & waited, & 5 minutes passed & I logged in & started my recording session.

About 20 minutes later, the employee called "nice Chris" entered & trying to act nice about it, implored me to allow the person who originally reserved it to reclaim his reservation despite according to the rules, having lost his rights to it for being almost 45 minutes late.

How could I say no to "nice Chris" & be the mean guy to the underprivileged fellow who arrived late? So I acquiesced despite wanting to finish this recording project & there being no empty slots for the sound Lab for the rest of the week. Nice Chris said there are some openings on Sunday,  but I guess he forgot the library is closed on Easter. And I'm leaving again for a few months, maybe longer. But it's okay. We need to make a  sacrifice sometimes for the underprivileged.

And memo to the underprivileged person: please show up on time for your 4-hour reservation next time. You can't Keep the Sound Lab reserved & excluded to all others if you don't show up. You're lucky you had Nice Chris caring so much for you. And It would have been cool if you had said thanks to me. I could have put up a fuss & made a stand according to library rules.

Also, young man,  it's your prerogative to wear pajamas all day, but at least could you pull them up so your underwear is not showing? Please? It's disrespectful & degrades the library atmosphere.

New construction project is making parking a hassle. Used to be plenty of spots in the structure now you have to go all the way to the top almost to get a spot during the busiest time of day. Meanwhile, the library itself seems to
becoming a little more ghetto in nature.

I used the sound Lab this morning & I was told that I had to leave because somebody else already had a reservation. Even though they were late for the reservation which is the only reason I could log into the computer in the sound Lab. They were more than 10 or 15 minutes late.

But I didn't put up an argument I just said okay no problem. The guy who had the reservation came in wearing what looked like pajamas and they were halfway down his backside showing his underwear.

You don't have to come down Newport Beach to prove you are ghetto. There's plenty of libraries all around OC  and LA counties where you can fit in much more comfortably than here. I mean I just don't get why people would take the long bus ride or however they get here just to  shove it in your face and say I'm ghetto.

That seems to be their main point of coming here, just to be annoying. And I'm NOT talking about any particular skin color or race. I'm talking about attitude. Nobody cares about your skin color or race or socioeconomics as long as you're just a decent person.

Anybody can buy decent- enough clothes that will be fine to come to the library. But when you intentionally lower your pants halfway down your back side, we know you're trying to insult Us & say
"F you" to us. Why travel all this way just to say F You to us ? Are you really that angry ? Does this make you feel better?
--+
Been gone for a few months. Wandered down to computer lab around 6pm. Hoping for some new faces, rather than the same ol robots. Sat down for a few moments & in walks the bossy Asian lady who used to try to dim the lights, until I said NO ๐Ÿšซ. Groan. She's still coming here like she owns it. So I leave. Can't stand to be around her.
--I found a guy's wallet in the downstairs computer lab and saw the name inside, so I looked it up online and he turned out to be a UCI employee. I found an email to contact him & told him to come and get it or else I will bring it to the desk. He came within an hour to get his wallet but he Didn't Even Say Thanks or show any appreciation to me.
⬇️
Even worse he treated me like I was the Bad Guy For Contacting Him to help him get his wallet back which included money in it. I wasn't expecting a reward but a Genuine Thanks would have been nice. GO FIGURE THAT. How many people would try to contact him to help him get it back?
---
It has a lot of nice features and generally nice atmosphere . However there are a few " obsessive compulsive" personalities at the public computers that always make it a little creepy . Two people in the downstairs lab (one female, the other male) are there SO OFTEN- esp the guy, you begin to feel like you are in their bedroom or living room. I just don't like being there anymore when they are there , which is almost always ๐Ÿ‘Ž.
--
Maybe they could have a time limit on the downstairs computers to help move some of these over-users on to living a life. Or at least go upstairs for a while. Take a walk. Call your family. Make a new friend.  See your therapist. Go to the beach ⛱️. Live a life . You CAN do it ๐Ÿ‘

re Pasadena Public Library-Central Library

Believe it or not, they have a very rudimentary untied-shoes sort of creepy fellow basically living inside the condemned Library who peeks out the window to make sure nobody is sitting on the lawn.

It seems like the orders are coming from above that they want to make sure nobody stays on or near the closed Library lawn for very long. If you walk by and take a break, sit down, rest, and  use their Wi-Fi which is still on as a free accessory ( "free" meaning tax-payer benefit) they will forcefully ( not physical force as far as I know, yet ) but without apology, & without normal social etiquette, and without even showing identification, make sure that you leave the PUBLIC premises , (PROBABLY ILLEGALLY because it is public property and the outside is not condemned).

They are so DEATHLY AFRAID of becoming like a downtown Los Angeles homeless haven that they have orders to make sure nobody stays on the public lawn and pay a low level security guard (maybe ex-con) to stay inside the library at all times peeking out the window to enforce this (probably illegally) , even on New Year's Day the day of the famous Rose Parade when there are thousands of tourists walking to the parade and from the parade back to their cars, as well as to the Rose bowl for the football game. It is freakin CREEPY ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ˜ก

College Terrace Library, Palo Alto

So I stopped in at the terrace library which I hadn't been to in a while. first thing happened was somebody parked right in front of me the wrong way facing the wrong way on the street taking my spot no apology as if there's no other spots around which they are. This isn't New York City .

Then I enter the library and there's an adult person LYING ON HIS BACK reading his phone. Comfortable?

I sit down and start working on my laptop and suddenly a guy burst in with lots of bags and stuff he sits down next to me and then he pulls out two hot smelly sandwiches he just bought at some restaurant and for some reason he said to carry him all the way to the library to eat here.

So I look at the Palo Alto library website and it says NO FOOD OR DRINKS. Why won't they enforce this ? I mean I get it if you want to bring a bottle of water or juice or whatever -even maybe a little something to eat on the side quietly or outside.

But this dude was CHOWING DOWN on smelly sandwiches, chewing loudly, not quietly. Furthermore, He decided to stand up from the chair next to me and move over to sit down at the table RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME so I was in his line of vision. As well as the smell ๐Ÿ‘Ž. & He seemed to enjoy PURPOSELY annoying me.  it seems like his INTENT was to purposely annoy me.

Why won't library staff enforce the rules except against me.  Please just do your job. Enforce your own rules.

What's the obsession of San Diego libraries with having an inner- city security guard at every location, including every suburban location ⁉️ And all they do is sit by the front door literally from open to close. It would be like having a white guy from the suburbs being a security guard at every inner city library. It's just Freakin Weird. It feels like they're trying to offend us.

The employees and security (if ACTUALLY necessary) should match the population of the neighborhood library and preferably be residents of such neighborhood.

re OC Library - Seal Beach Branch

https://maps.app.goo.gl/nFyQuGveeJnv779S6

There's an annoying fellow who comes in to use the computer and has some sort of obsessive- compulsive disorder. He goes thru a 15- minute ritual of wiping not only the computer keyboard but also everything around it as well, including the chair & table etc.

Truth be told: the only way to be sure you don't get germs from touching anything is to simply wash hands with soap when finished. All the wiping down is simply drama & theatrics.

Ironically, this guy looked gross. He looked unclean & unkempt himself. I finally told him "All you need to do is wash your hands afterwards" and he kept saying "not interested" as if I was trying to sell him something over the phone and he was a VIP. Dream on buddy. You're obviously nothing special ๐Ÿ‘Ž.

And I added "You can get help for obsessive compulsive disorder, you know. There are doctors for that" (ie mental health professionals) . He replied again "Not interested ".

Poor creepy fellow. But that's what you get at public libraries. Sad ๐Ÿ˜ž. Prayers ๐Ÿ™ for.

OC Library - Cypress Branch

https://maps.app.goo.gl/FwYN31WjAdLh6xZB8

I actually don't like the type of libraries where there's always an employee posted at the "front desk" for whom you have to pass visual inspection upon entering and even exiting. And sometimes it makes you feel like they are undressing you with their eyes.

This is OUR library - not this employee's personal Library. Not the staff's library. So when you say "welcome" , its like a family member saying welcome as you walk in the front door of your own house. It's actually offensive.

And when you say "Thanks for coming" as we leave, oรฑce again you are acting as if it's your personal library,  because you work there. And we the tax paying local citizens are the guests. That's not right. We appreciate good staff . But you are one of us, and we are one of you. We are a community. This is a public venue. Not private.

Prayers for parking dude to #AcceptChrist2bSaved2Day #RepentAndBeBaptized
- by Joy L. at 10:04 AM on Sat, Aug 19, 2023

This guy concocted a rule on the spot saying "no parking after 9pm" despite no signs to corroborate. I asked him if he knows Jesus Christ as Savior and he said "I don't care about that stuff". I asked him if he knows where he will go when he dies and he responded angrily " I just where you go right now, and that's out of the parking lot". Please ๐Ÿ™pray for this dude to repent and be baptized and accept ✝️Jesus Christ as his Savior. Or at least to be honest employee and a good citizen.

This is a library in a generally conservative  area of L.A. county but increasingly lefties are creeping I'm and trying to change it (and they always target the public libraries first- usually with a few lefty people getting employed there) - and that's what's been happening.and they are trying to implement their anti-Biblical agenda ๐Ÿ‘Ž. Please pray against this spiritual warfare- and for Christians to not be led astray. ๐Ÿ™✝️

re Newport Beach Public Library (main)

I used to use the downstairs computer lab and enjoy the more comfortable chairs down, then one day dude showed up and he always sat in the same chair came every single day. And then this other lady also seemed to start showing up every day and she had her own little habits . So I started wearing a hoodie to block out the distraction of her idiosyncrasies.

Then I left for 6 months & traveled the world and upon return I come back here to do some work on the computers and what do you know: the same two characters are in the same exact spots. Like am I hallucinating?

And now these two seem to think they kind of like OWN the downstairs computer lab. IT'S A REAL DRAG. So now I have to go upstairs and try to sit on those hard wooden chairs but it's so hard with my arthritis - can't do it for very long.

Can the library do anything about these certain characters who become obsessive compulsive & sit in the same spot and then start to have an increasing sense of Entitlement ?

There's a few OC's (obsessive compulsives) )upstairs too but there's enough other people & staff to prevent them from acting like it's their "turf" ( altho a few do try)

re Peninsula Center Library, Palos Verdes

I'm CONCERNED that there's a slow but sure creep of certain types of people, including some employees, into this Library & they're dishonestly & unethically trying to take over and PUSH OUT the traditional people who have been here for so many years.

My guess is that in 10 years from now, maybe sooner, this will feel like an inner city library.

It will no longer feel like a library that you can relax & read & study & get away from all the crazy city angst. Sad. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿฝ

Unfortunately this library has a very strong "Brown Power " atmosphere ( ie Chicano) at the expense of black & white people. Any cross-cultural issues or conflicts will be decided in favor of the Latino . They need some whites working here.

The brown people automatically assume if you are white here it's because you're down and out. I am a highly successful Christian missionary trying to reach the people of this community. It doesn't help when you have Latinos being condescending towards all others. It feels almost like "brown supremacy" ๐Ÿ‘Ž

re Palm Desert Branch Library

The new big fella - sort of Latin looking- employee may be LGBTQ - which is his choice to make (for secular life) ( as for eternal life, that's a different story)- but sometimes they actually have subtle little ways of being territorial, of saying with body language that this is "my territory" .

Ironically while the LGBTQ has clamored for being accepted and included, once they get it, some of them become exclusive to heterosexuals.

This fella for example will go around tidying up &  pushing in chairs by the computers and cut right by me seemingly trying to send a message. Even when the chairs DON'T need to be pushed in.

 Somebody please counsel him.

Re Redondo Beach library 12/17/22

They have some good new employees here seem like decent people as opposed to some of the older employees been around for so long and they're kind of like locals on their turf. So I'm thankful for the new employees who are nice and honest.

But I hope to encourage them to crack down on the little bells and whistles that all the phones make. They do become annoying after a while. & some people just don't seem to get it. That's why phones have a silence button.

One lady snapped at me because I thought her phone was making the noise. I said nicely "Ma'am could you please turn down your phone?" She said "It's not me. & then added "Mind your own efff'n business". I said  "Somebody made it my business  by NOT turning down their phone".

We have a  right to a certain amount of silence in the library- a pleasant and productive atmosphere. It was the next person to her and she KNEW it. BUT she had to take the opportunity to snap at me and become abusive. Some of these older ladies actually can be abusive the way they treat younger people.

I don't like to loosely use the b word about anybody but in this case the glove does  fit.

So then I asked the guy next to her to turn down his phone alerts, that kept going off every minute or two,  because the employees didn't or wouldn't. And he  literally  seemed to NOT know how to silence his phone. Are you kidding me? He had to  fiddle around just to figure out how to turn down his phone. I don't care how old you are anymore- if you use a phone everyday this is as simple as anything else.

Cmon people:  no matter how old you are, no matter what gender, religion, race creed, color, there's No Excuse for being rude by leaving your phone volume up in places like the library. Show some respect towards others. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
